Building our future

Operating across half of Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is one of Europe’s most highly-regarded development agencies. HIE’s unique integration of economic and community development is central to its success in generating sustainable economic growth in every part of the Highlands and Islands, particularly in fragile areas.

Wave Energy Scotland (WES) has been established by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to support the development of wave energy technologies in Scotland.   As a Scottish Government funded initiative, Wave Energy Scotland has been tasked with bringing together the best engineering and academic minds to collaborate on innovative projects that will accelerate the development of wave technologies.

The objectives of WES recognise the significant value that has accrued to Scotland in the development of wave technology to date and the large global market that can be developed through further technological innovation.

WES is seeking to recruit a Research Engineer who will join the Research and Innovation team, playing a key role in the development of the DTOceanPlus software tools.  Main activities will involve requirements definition, software tool development, coding, testing and verification, and support of the integration of many partners’ software contributions into a coherent package.

Experience and knowledge of technology or software requirement definition and development will be required, along with the ability to collaborate closely with partners across Europe.   Experience of software coding is essential.

You will have a strong technical background, with a clear understanding of technology research, development and evaluation.   Direct experience within the ocean energy sector is advantageous.

You may also become involved in the future development of the WES programme and associated activities, therefore experience of operation in a public funding environment is advantageous.
