About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Coppersmith/ Pipe Fitter to join our team at Babcock Marine Clyde, working within the Estates Maintenance department

You will carry out fabrication, installation, inspection and maintenance activities to support scheduled maintenance and defect repair work on boiler and heating systems and other key infrastructure at HM Naval Base Clyde. Specific responsibilities will include repair, manufacturing and inspections pipework, sheet metal work, operating machine tools and various welding plant. Applicants must be coded welder for a variety of materials including Carbon Steels, Stainless Steels and Aluminium and proficient in brazing. Also must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces. Experience in working on steam and hot water systems would be desirable

What do I need to do the role?

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate significant previous experience of carrying out pipework installations and are coded welders in at least one of the following MMA, TIG and MIG. Ideally, you would have previous experience of working with maintenance technical instructions, welding procedures and acceptance standards. Key areas of competency we require are as follows:

  • SVQ Level 3 in Fabricating or Pipe Fitter / completed Modern apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
  • Competent in operating and use of industrial machine tools.
  • Experience in a maintenance environment.
  • Used to working with Risk, COSHH assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Attention to detail when undertaking given tasks.
  • Strong team working and interpersonal skills.
