Engineering Manager
Would you like to be part of the DI and its broad portfolio of products and projects? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager at our site in Christchurch.
As an Engineering Manager, you will be working on projects that are generally delivering communications and secure IT systems to UK and other Armed Forces. We are currently growing our engineering team and associated leadership team.
This role will provide you with a very wide variety of capabilities and product's within DI. Projects tend to be short timescale (1-3 years), so lots of scope for new learning and variety. This role will allow leaders to influence their teams and the wider business. You will have delegated decision making and accountability for delivery of engineering, budgets, schedules and resource allocation.
Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager will involve:
Effective delivery of engineering on defence Information Systems projects
Leading, organising, motivating and coaching your team of about 10-15 engineers to successfully deliver technical and delivery commitments
Accountability for the team's performance and for compliance to standards and process
Contributing to the creation of Engineering, Estimates, Management, Resourcing and Performance Reporting Plans
Managing your team's effective and efficient execution of these plans
Manage your team's performance through tracking/reporting progress. applying metrics, issue identification/resolution and risk management
Line management of your team members, developing them and managing their performance
Generating continual improvements within your team and collaborating with others to establish Best
Practice process and guidance
Communicating effectively on your team's successes and issues
Your skills and qualifications:
STEM degree or equivalent experience
Experience of managing IT or Defence engineering teams (of 10+ people)
Strong in organising and managing delivery of engineering team activities
Strong engineering management skills, e.g. Engineering Planning, resource management, estimating, forecasting, setting objectives, action planning, monitoring, administering policy compliance, establishing procedures
Strong leadership competence e.g. deciding, communicating, motivating, selecting/developing people, taking proactive actions
Strong project control skills: Setting performance standards, evaluating/documenting/correcting performance, solving technical and challenges creatively process, managing expectations
Experienced Customer and Supplier interface manager
Ability to manage people on a day to day basis
Understanding of:
IT Systems and applications
Communications Systems, radio, IP networks, Encryption devices
Engineering Lifecycle and Processes
Ideally knowledge of Defence contracting
