Salary: £40,000-£50,000 DOE + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
 
 
The opportunity
 
Electronic Engineering has many exciting projects that have challenging technology and timescales to achieve.  This has created opportunities for Engineering Project Managers to join our team and help deliver this challenging work.
 
The Role
 
The Engineering Project Manager will own and manage the development and delivery of a range of Electronic Equipment (e.g. Subsystems for missiles, Weapon Firing control systems, Test Equipment for series production and for delivery to the customer to support use in the field.)
 
Accountability is from the Bid phase through to entry into series production or delivery to the customer (for relevant Test Equipment.)  The expected value of these packages of work is up to approximately £5m.  This role will involve the management of multi-disciplinary teams across the various MBDA functions and includes support to staff development activities.

What we are looking for?
 
Typical accountabilities and responsibilities of this role are:
  • Ensuring Product/Equipment delivery timescales, functionality and performance are met for both the Development and Manufacturing phases
  • Ensuring Development budgets, Risk Management and Product Quality are all achieved
  • Product industrialisation and handover to manufacturing or the customer is achieved
  • External sub contract management and supply chain management is supported
  • Timely and applicable project reporting is provided
  • Staff develop activities are supported
 
Typical Skills and Knowledge to achieve the role are:
  • Engineering background in Electrical, Electronics, Software or Mechanical, preferably a blend of all these and more. Chartership with a relevant institution would be an advantage
  • Demonstrable ability to manage multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Demonstrable ability in project management, planning, monitoring and controlling techniques that have led to successful delivery of projects.
  • Wide knowledge of the Product development lifecycle encompassing a variety of complex products, preferably for harsh environments.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of industrialisation and manufacturing.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Ability to manage uncertainty and ambiguity and making effective decisions
  • Communication and reporting, customer interfacing. 
  • Ability to influence all levels, from the engineers in the team to senior management
 
Typical Problem solving challenges of this role are:
  • Managing late or immature Product/Equipment needs/requirements.
  • Managing Product/Equipment requirements which are difficult to achieve.
  • Meeting challenging development timescales and budget constraints.
  • Generating realistic plans for the development activities.
  • Establishing development teams, resourcing.
  • Adhering to the plans for the development activities.
  • Ensuring suitable and viable technical solutions are identified.
  • Leveraging capabilities of other departments within MBDA.
  • Ensuring technical problems are resolved efficiently and effectively.
  • Making difficult decisions. 
  • Working Internationally.
