TWI is a world expert in engineering, materials and joining technologies, providing industry with advice and know-how in design, fabrication, failure prevention and failure analysis. Our Technology Centre in South Wales specialises in the development of new inspection technologies to underpin engineering structural integrity management across a wide range of industries.

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic self-starter with strong motivation and leadership skills to rapidly integrate with an agile project team delivering a wide portfolio of fast paced projects. Holding an honours degree in engineering or related discipline, the successful candidate will add to the expertise of the team, leading and contributing to technical projects related to the theme of Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and specifically Ultrasonic Testing (UT).

This permanent position has become available through the Advanced Engineering Materials Research Institute (AEMRI), which is funded by the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) using European Regional Development Funds (ERDF).

Job description:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: manufacturing; mechanical design; CAD modelling and simulation; electronic design and manufacture; software development; signal processing or Masters/PhD level research in engineering, physics, robotics, computer science or similar discipline. Relevant industrial experience and qualifications in an NDT related discipline would be advantageous though not essential as on the job training will be provided.

The remit of the role covers:

  • Delivering technical inspection activities related to advanced NDT including technique and procedure development and, as required, travel to various customer sites to deliver inspection services with the support of team of technicians.
  • Proactively developing expertise in Ultrasonic Testing and other inspection methods.
  • Delivering and project managing engineering and NDT related activities as required by internal and external customers, meeting time and budgetary targets.
  • Contributing to business development by participating in feasibility analysis, project scoping, resource planning, cost estimating and estimating task durations for project scheduling/milestone planning.
  • Creating and delivering technical documentation including reports, proposals and other technical content.
  • Contributing to the development of proposal content supporting applications for research funding from various sources including IUK, EU H2020, etc.

Please note to be successful in this position you must be able to obtain SC clearance, and any job offer will be conditional upon this.

Located between the City of Cardiff/Vale of Glamorgan and Swansea City/the Gower Peninsular, TWI Technology Centre, Wales resides within the new Harbourside Park, research and development village in Port Talbot.

The park has strong commuter links to West Wales, East Wales and the West of England being a five minute walk from Port Talbot Parkway railway station and five minutes from M4 Junction 38 by road.

Bydd yr ymgeisydd delfrydol yn arddangos gwybodaeth a phrofiad helaeth mewn un neu ragor o'r disgyblaethau canlynol: gweithgynhyrchu; dylunio mecanyddol; modelu ac efelychu CAD; dylunio a gweithgynhyrchu electronig; datblygu meddalwedd; prosesu signalau neu waith ymchwil ar lefel Meistr / Doethuriaeth mewn peirianneg, ffiseg, roboteg, cyfrifiaduron neu ddisgyblaeth debyg. Byddai profiad o weithio yn y maes a chymwysterau mewn disgyblaeth sy'n gysylltiedig â Phrofi Anninistriol o fantais, ond nid yw'n angenrheidiol oherwydd bydd hyfforddiant yn cael ei ddarparu fel rhan o'r gwaith.

  • Cyflawni gweithgareddau archwilio technegol sy'n gysylltiedig â phrofi anninistriol gan gynnwys datblygu technegau a gweithdrefnau, a phan fydd angen gwneud hynny, teithio i safleoedd cwsmeriaid amrywiol i gyflwyno gwasanaethau archwilio â chymorth y tîm o dechnegwyr.
  • Datblygu arbenigedd mewn perthynas â Phrofi Uwchsonig a dulliau archwilio eraill.
  • Cyflawni a rheoli prosiectau peirianneg a gweithgareddau sy'n ymwneud â Phrofi Anninistriol (NDT) yn unol â'r galw gan gwsmeriaid mewnol ac allanol, gan fodloni gofynion amser a chyllidebau.
  • Cyfrannu at waith datblygu'r busnes trwy gyfranogi mewn gwaith dadansoddi dichonoldeb, cwmpasu prosiectau, cynllunio adnoddau ac amcangyfrif costau a faint o amser fydd ei angen i gwblhau tasgau fel y gellir cynllunio amserlenni a cherrig milltir prosiectau.
  • Creu a darparu dogfennau technegol gan gynnwys adroddiadau, cynigion a chynnwys technegol eraill.
  • Cyfrannu at ddatblygu cynnwys cynigion sy'n ategu ceisiadau am gyllid ymchwil o wahanol ffynonellau, gan gynnwys IUK, EU H2020, ac ati.
