Senior Environmental Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Engineer to be based in Portsmouth Naval Base, the hike of the Royal Navy.

The successful candidate will apply a depth of knowledge, skill and significant product environmental experience to engineering systems in order to identify issues, risks and faults associated with installation, commissioning, safe operation and through life support of systems. You will undertake a range of environmental assessment and management activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to stakeholders and other functions.

Your main responsibilities will involve:

Provides Product Environmental oversight of the work of engineers within design change process

Applies a depth of knowledge, skill and significant product environmental experience to engineering systems in order to identify issues, risks and faults associated with installation, commissioning, safe operation and through life support of systems.

To undertake a range of Environmental assessment and management activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements, supplying advice and support to stakeholders and other functions.

Assists the Principal Environmental Engineer in the delivery of environmental management programme of ships and systems within the relevant projects

Ensuring that the standards of Product Environmental defined by statutory, business and customer requirements are observed in the design of the Product(s) produced by, or resulting from the project (e.g. DSA02-DMR, JSP520, Def Stan 00-56).

Keep up to date with Environmental legislation and advise projects, and where appropriate the business, of compliance requirements.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Experience of Environmental management within Engineering or similar industry

Comprehensive understanding and demonstrable experience of application of a range of common environmental management tools, techniques and practices

Articulate, with sound written and verbal communication skills in informal and formal settings.

Experience of collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, ideally Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence but other industries considered.

Degree qualified or equivalent experience to be able to achieve it, in a relevant Environmental management discipline.

Desirable:

Understanding of Lifecycle Management and the Engineering Lifecycle

Practitioner Member of suitable Environmental professional body i.e. IEMA

Ship Safety & Environmental Management Training (SSEMT) qualified

Understanding of Marine Engineering and systems
