Principal Communication Systems Engineer

Would you like to be part of an exciting and unique team? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Communication Systems Engineer at our site in Barrow.

As a Principal Communication Systems Engineer, you will be working with internal communications design team, within electrical design function; carrying out a range of design activities data networks, communications systems and equipment.

This role will provide you with an opportunity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels offering a great deal of exposure across the business, opening exciting developmental opportunities on both the technical side (consultant engineer etc.) and engineering management side.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Communication Systems Engineer involve:

Designing and delivering communications and audio systems to naval vessels, determining requirements and design standards

Developing system(s) design and solutions to technical problems

Writing technical reports, specifications, user guides, and manuals with the preparation of design calculations to demonstrate designs meet performance requirements

Presenting results to internal / external customers

Preparing test requirements and support to dockside installation and commissioning teams

Reviewing test and qualification evidence for compliance against requirements

Undertaking technical development studies to verify and validate compliance with design requirements

Providing technical input to the engineering and project management team to produce robust cost estimates, technical risk assessment and reduction

Where required, supporting Factory Acceptance Testing of system equipment at supplier premises

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

BEng/BSc and/or MEng/MSc degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as, or equivalent experience in;

Communications Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Telecommunications

Electronic Engineering

Acoustics / Audio Engineering / Audio Technology

Technical report writing skills

A detailed understanding of at least one of the following disciplines:

Design and deployment of Voice Over IP (VOIP) networks

Deployment of Private Branch Exchange systems

Acoustics Modelling and Simulation

Speech Quality Analysis

Design of Public Address or Voice Alarm or Installed Sound Systems

Design of audio distribution systems

Design of trunked radio systems

Design of military tactical communications systems

Design of communications systems for safety critical applications

Design and installation of electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres

Proven track record of system or equipment design

Desirable:

CEng (or be able to work towards satisfying requirements for Chartership) with an accredited institution

Knowledge and experience in defence standards

Knowledge and experience of classification society rules, International and UK marine equipment legislation
