Engineering Manager (Electronic Communications)

Would you like to play a key role in the development and delivery of submarine systems? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As an Engineering Manager you will be responsible for a dedicated test and integration facility which is an integral part of the successful delivery of the submarine platform. You will be responsible for the management of the internal communications team and the control and instrumentation team, ensuring that the facility is run in accordance with the agreed quality framework, management plans and processes, whilst being responsible for deliverable outputs. The activities in the facility range from hosting supplier FATs using the facility infrastructure and test harnesses to conducting integration tests at a wider system level.

This role will provide you with exposure to the wider BAE Systems business and the opportunity for progression.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager (Electronic Communications) will involve:

  • Ensuring that the Internal Communications and Controls and Instrumentation capability designs are achievable, justified, planned appropriately, subjected to appropriate levels of rigour and lifecycle, and that their strategies are achieved to cost and budget
  • Delivering the overall verification, validation, and integration activities in line with the programme, ensuring that customer and user requirements are elicited and agreed, and that systems and equipment are compliant with these requirements
  • Supporting the Integrated Testing & Facility team and the Systems Integration team to ensure that activities dovetail to the wider integration and qualification plan

Your skills and qualifications as an Engineering Manager (Electronic Communications):

Essential:

Degree qualified in relevant engineering discipline e.g. electronics, systems, communication systems etc.

Electronics/ communications systems/ systems integration background

Demonstrable experience in communicating to senior management both oral and written

Knowledge of the product lifecycle

Desirable:

Knowledge of integration of complex electronic systems into platforms

Experience of working with the MOD, including knowledge of the MOD Engineering Lifecycle

To be a successful Engineering Manager within the Shore Integration Facility you will have high level of communication skills both written and oral and be technically-minded. It is also important to possess analytically ability, as well as diplomacy. Being able to thrive under pressure, working to strict timescales is also essential for this position.
