Principal Quality Engineer

Would you like to have the opportunity to work within Quality working on enabling our Submarine programmes? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Quality Engineer at our site in Barrow.

As a Principal Quality Engineer you will be working within the Quality Department supporting the Operations Function to ensure work packages are completed right first time with zero defects.

The primary objective of this role is to provide a Process Assurance, Governance and Control Capability on submarine build operations, and to drive continuous improvement on any issues found. This role will provide you with an opportunity to work first hand on our Submarine products liaising with the business to deliver Quality Engineering Solutions to build line support issues.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Quality Engineer will involve:

Build Control - Completing Regular Process Confirmations of key manufacturing process risks providing Governance and Control over build processes, so the product is produced Right First Time

Product Verification Support - Supporting Operations during Product Verifications and Pack Walks with the aim of preventing Notifications through on the job coaching

Corrective Actions - Where Process Issues are found, Support and Lead Corrective Action Investigations to identify Root Cause of Issue and prevent issue reoccurrence

Good To Go Checks - Work with the boat teams to ensure sufficient Quality Planning in place for Major Milestones to prevent defects, and utilise LFE and lessons learned from previous issues

Tooling Checks - Surveillance of Tooling, Calibration, and Consumables etc to verify correct equipment is being used during construction and test

Document Reviews - Ensuring Workmanship Standards, Scope Sheets and Drawings Contain Correct Level of information to complete job and can be easily applied by operations

Conditions Management - Supporting 5S Conditions Management on Boats, in lay downs areas and workshops

Notification Management - Supporting the Closure and Resolution of Open Notifications to ensure they are closed in 28 days or key evented to a Work Order

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Experience in Submarine Key Manufacturing Processes and Boat Build Knowledge

Good understanding of Quality Tools and Techniques

Proven History of Driving Change

Pro-Active Pragmatic Problem Solving Mind Set

Good Stakeholder Management

Good Communications Skills

Formal Quality or Engineering Qualification

Desirable

Experience of Lean practices, Problem Solving and Improvement activities

Lead Auditor

Inspection Experience / Understanding

Test and Commissioning Experience/Understanding

Nuclear Standards Experience/Understanding
