Environmental Engineer

We currently have a vacancy for an Environmental Engineer at our site in Filton, Bristol.

As an Environmental Engineer, you will be look at projects from an environmental compliance and sustainability point of view, applying an environmental management system. Whereas other engineers focus on delivering capability, you will be concerned with how this capability impacts on the environment through the life of the product. There will be relevant legislation, direct and indirect environmental impacts, and Climate change impact to be considered. We also need to consider materials, which may be harmful to the environment, legislatively restricted or where continued supply cannot be guaranteed.

You will liaise with Engineers, Supply Chain, Regulators and Operations, and so will often be viewed as a trans functional engineer. You will also liaise with industry working groups on topics such as Design for Environment and REACH and work with other business units including Manufacturing, Combat Systems, Aircraft, Submarines, Munitions and Land Systems.

This role will provide you with an exciting and varied workload working on major defence programmes ensuring a sustainable fleet, able to operate globally.

Your main responsibilities as an Environmental Engineer will involve:

Application of an environmental management system to product design, in support of ISO 14001:2015

Managing and supporting the programme of work for development of documentation for the Environmental Case

Undertaking Product Environmental assessment for platform, systems and equipment with technical authorities

Raising awareness of Product Environmental and Regulated materials requirements across the engineering community

Attending internal and external meetings on the Principal Environmental Engineer's behalf as required.

Your skills and qualifications as an Environmental Engineer:

Possesses in-depth working knowledge of environmental legislation and environmental management techniques

Good breadth of knowledge of environmental impacts associated with products

Experienced in a multi- disciplined engineering environment

Degree qualified/equivalent in Environmental subject or related discipline

You will have strong communication skills alongside excellent problem-solving and technical report writing skills You will have an ability to work as part of a team and across geographically dispersed teams and will be organised and focussed on delivery against a defined programme of work.
