Senior Principal Engineer - Equipment Support

Would you like to work within an interesting Engineering Support role, working closely with the JSS2 Equipment Support Manager? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Principal Engineer - Equipment Support at our site in New Malden.

As a Senior Principal Engineer - Equipment Support you will be supporting the coordination of the product, including drumbeat Software Releases plus alignment of technology development and obsolescence resolution activities to ensure the JSS2 programme delivers its contracted equipment availability to the UK Royal Navy fleet. The role will include close liaison with the existing project platform organisations (Type 23 frigates, Type 45 destroyers, QE Class aircraft carriers, RFA Argus, Landing Platform Dock) and product organisations (Shared Infrastructure, Internal Network Electronics and PAC).

This role will provide you with the opportunity for Career development that will give greater direct customer contact. This is a varied role in a fast paced environment that offers many different challenges. JSS2 is a high profile contract, which receives regular senior level attention and opportunity for exposure with internal senior stakeholders as well as the customer.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Principal Engineer - Equipment Support will involve:

Delivering strategy for software obsolescence, including continuous monitoring of COTS products.

Delivering process improvement and project convergence, establishing common product mechanisms and artefacts.

Leading stakeholder engagement to scope future system product improvements.

Ensuring Safety and Security requirements are met/achieved for all necessary aspects of the programme.

Providing support to ensure resolution of in service customer queries, defects and Ship Technical Queries.

Ensuring the supporting infrastructure of target hardware and tools are sufficient to deliver programmes and refreshed as required.

Your skills and qualifications:

Typically degree qualified in technology, engineering or science

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to operate in a large, complex project at a senior engineering level in a multi-disciplinary, matrix management environment.
  • Knowledge of the JSS-2 supported equipment, customers and deployed platform environment. Knowledge of combat management systems, networks and shared infrastructure - focused on the in service support of those equipment Desirable Skills:
  • Military or Defence technology background would be desirable but not essential
