Electrical Safety Engineer

The UK Atomic Energy Authority have an excellent opportunity for an electrical safety engineer to join their team within the Electrical Engineering Department.

Based out of our site in Oxfordshire, the Electrical Engineering Department operates, maintains and develops the Tokamak pulsed power converters and distribution equipment for the Joint European Torus (JET) and the UK`s MAST-U. 

The Department has three Authority to Operate Holders who are responsible for the safe operation and management of the sites power supplies facilities and distribution. The job role will provide professional engineering skills on electrical and plant safety and eventually deputise for the departments Authority to Operate Holders. 

Key areas responsibility includes:
- Developing short to medium term plans with the broad aim of improving safety and reliability.
- Assisting the Authority to Operate Holders in developing long term strategies.
- Leading safety related projects.
- Prepare and assess technical documentation such as maintenance procedures, safety assessments (safety case procedures), design reports, risk assessments and method statements.
- Assisting in the maintenance and development of the facilities safety cases.
- Engage in technically complex and sensitive interactions such as safety reviews, audits and incident investigations.
- Seeking to achieve high standards of safety, monitor and evaluate work-place safety standards, conducting incident investigations, determine root cause, and develop corrective actions.

Knowledge skills and experience

Essential
- An HND, degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or closely allied discipline or substantial relevant experience.
- A background of working with industrial electrical power systems. 
- Experience of safety and maintenance processes and procedures in a high-hazard environment.
- Excellent communication skills.

Desirable
- Safety related qualification or certificate, (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, etc.).
