Your Responsibilities 

As a Senior Mechanical Technician, you’ll join the Remote Application in Challenging Environments (RACE) Department, working on a range of small to larger scale projects. 

You will generate documentation and supervise a small team of Mechanical Technicians in assembling and maintaining a wide range of specialist equipment. This includes telemanipulators, transporters, welding, cutting, handling and inspection devices. 

As a Senior Mechanical Technician, you will: 

- Write necessary written safety schema of work, assembly procedures/method statements and risk assessments, hold readiness review prior to task and undertake the assembly, commissioning and rebuild activities 
- Support maintenance activities, ensuring equipment is functionality assembled as originally designed 
- Offer technical support and solutions to rectify any assembly-related issues 
- Attend regular progress meetings with senior managers to report back to the business 

Knowledge skills and experience 

Essential: 

- Extensive experience of working as a technician in an engineering environment 
- Experience of managing tasks in a work hall environment with formal work control 
- Supervisory and/or direct line management experience, including managing a small team of technicians 
- Experience of generating formal work control documentation 
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel 
- The ability to work from detailed drawings and schematics 
- A recognised engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent) with a qualification in engineering and workshop technology 
- An HND level qualification (or equivalent) or a similar level of experience 

Desirable: 

- Previous experience in the operation of remote handling equipment 
- Experience in the manipulation of virtual reality models 
- An EngTech registration 

The appointee may be required to work in Beryllium and Radiation controlled areas. All necessary training and registration for this will be provided by UKAEA.

Selection Method(s): 

- As part of the selection process you will be expected to complete a fitting test, manufacturing a small component with basic hand tools.
