Senior Software/Systems Engineer

Would you like to be pivotal member of a highly trained and specialised team, integrating complex, cutting edge Combat Systems into modern Royal Navy platforms? If so we currently have a vacancy for a Senior Software/Systems Engineer at our site in the Maritime Integration & Support Centre (MISC), located at Ports down Technology Park.

As a Senior Software/Systems Engineer, you will ensure that an appropriate set of tools is available to support Integration Service activities. However, the role will also include toolset and synthetic environment support to the wider Naval Combat Systems Integration Support Services (NCSISS) programme. There will also be an opportunity to work with and potentially develop the latest Royal Navy networks.

This role will provide you with a varied and interesting workload, every day is different, the technology that is used, short lifecycle, wide range of technologies used and the variety of end to end processes

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Software/Systems Engineer will involve:

Maintenance of the toolset deployed across the NCSISS integration labs (including administration support, backup, etc.)

Development & Maintenance of other Integration Support web based services and networks

Development of Synthetic Environment interface devices

Post event analysis of recorded Combat System data

Toolset Training

Configuration Management of the deployed toolset

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Basic understanding of IP networks (protocols, switching & routing);

Software & Script development experience on Windows and Linux platforms in some or all of the following: Ada, C/C++/C#, Shell scripts, Perl, Python;

Previous Network/Systems engineering - Integrations Experience background

Desirable

An understanding of integration toolsets, and their application over the integration lifecycle;

Good understanding of the system integration lifecycle;

Understanding of Industry standard protocols

Sound understanding of IP networks (protocols, switching & routing); preferably CCNA or equivalent.

You will have excellent communication and all round stakeholder management skills with the ability to build good working relations at all levels whilst being able to push back where appropriate. A proactive attitude with a keen eye for detail is essential to the success of this role
