Quality Manager

Would you like to lead crucial projects within our submarines quality function? We currently have a vacancy for a Quality Manager at our site in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

As a Quality Manager, you will be working as part of the Supplier Quality function within our Submarines business. The function comprises a team of 61 people, consisting of Quality Managers, Engineers Inspectors and Improvement Leaders, all reporting up to the Head of Supplier Quality. This particular role will be working across all four departments in the function, managing projects relating to functional strategy and governance.

This role will provide you with good exposure to senior leaders within the business, as well as progression opportunities, such as Senior Quality Manager level within the function. Experience in the quality domain is not a necessity for this role.

Your main responsibilities as a Quality Manager will involve:

  • Leading governance and project support of the department
  • Leading projects on functional/ supplier quality improvements
  • Holding supplier forums
  • Creating and maintaining a standard skills matrix

Your skills and qualifications as a Quality Manager:


Process development and improvement experience

Recruitment process knowledge

Project management/facilitation skills


Project management qualifications

Microsoft Projects experience

Leadership experience

You will be an excellent communicator at all levels, with the ability to forge solid working relationships with our suppliers. You must also possess good organisational skills, with the ability to work to programme deadlines.

Maritime - Submarines

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.

Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.
