Consultant Engineer (Numerical Modelling & Algorithms)

Would you like to undertake a key role contributing to the development of a "state of the art" whole boat manoeuvring solution for submarines? If so, we currently have a vacancy for a Consultant Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness within the Active Vehicle Control (AVC) team.

As a Consultant Engineer, you will harness a breadth of technical knowledge across industry networks and spearhead technical solutions with a team of professional engineers to ensure key deliverables are reached. You will be responsible for leading a range of numerical modelling and algorithm development activities to aid the development of submarine manoeuvrability.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to be a Subject Matter Expert, working with industry leading practices and helping set the way ahead to ensure submarine platform capability.

Your main responsibilities as a Consultant Electrical Engineering will involve:

Responsibility for influencing controller development activities across the three associated BAE Systems sites. This will require close working with the Warton & Rochester based teams to ensure all aspects of submarine hydrostatic & hydrodynamic control are considered throughout the design process

Assisting with ensuring the quality and fitness for purpose of the technical solution and engineering aspects of the AVC

Assisting with directing the Controller Development team, to deliver a system to safely and efficiently control the submarine, within set time scales and budgetary constraints

Responsible for ensuring that all boat controllers verification and validation activities are considered and comprehended and planned for throughout test and commissioning activities

Providing support to model validation activities

Developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with stakeholders to further the understanding and capability of the wider submarine manoeuvring community

Your skills and qualifications as a Consultant Electrical Engineering:

Experience in specifying, developing and implementing control algorithms

Experience in numerical modelling

Good working knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink toolsets

Degree equivalent or equivalent in STEM discipline

PhD or industrial experience
