Commissioning Engineer

Would you like to play a key role within the Test and Commissioning within Maritime Services? We currently have a vacancy for a Commissioning Engineer at our site on the Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Commissioning Engineer you will be responsible for the conduct of Marine Systems surveys. You will be involved in the commissioning, operation, maintenance and defect rectification activities on board Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carriers, as well as Type 45 (T45) Destroyers, Type 23 (T23) Frigates and HUNT class MWV's.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to provide subject matter expertise across all types/classes within Maritime Services gaining exposure to a broad range of systems and environments.

Your main responsibilities as a Commissioning Engineer will involve:

Survey, Commission, operate and maintain RN Marine systems

Applying knowledge, skill and experience in order to resolve issues and faults associated with the operation and performance of RN Marine systems

Presenting designated trials and commissioning activities

Operating Safe Systems of Work, complying with the company SHE procedures at all times

Providing technical advice and guidance to other technical staff

Providing mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced engineers

Engaging with customers and authorities to discuss technical issues and problems

Providing information and technical advice to assist in the compilation of estimates, programmes and work packages

Ensuring that work meets the product safety standards

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Experience in warship commissioning or commercial ship build /commissioning environments

Recognised apprenticeship/time-served in a relevant branch of engineering

Experience of RN Marine Systems and what may influence performance

Technical knowledge in a specific Marine Systems discipline, i.e. Controls Principles, Platform Management systems, Diesel Generators, Gas Turbines and all auxiliary supporting systems

Desirable:

Royal Navy background with an understanding of operations in commissioning, ideally to an Artificer or Petty Office level

You must be a flexible individual with a commitment to building knowledge and a willingness to learn. You must have excellent problem solving skills with the ability to make sound judgements based on own knowledge and experience.
