Electromagnetics Group Leader

Would you like to work within an interesting role, supporting the Air Sector? We currently have a vacancy for a Signature Measurement Electromagnetics Group Leader at our site in Warton. 'Signature' refers to the Low Observability of a platform in the RF and IR sections of the Electromagnetic spectrum.


The Team you will manage is responsible for Radio Frequency (RF) measurements (Radar Cross Section and RF Materials Characterisation) and Infra-red measurements on various Air Sector programmes as well as 3rd party work from other parts of the company and beyond.


As a Electromagnetics Group Leader, you will be involved in managing in the modelling, measurement and test environment. You'll be ensuring delivery of trials data for small and large test object, characterising their stealth performance, maintaining facilities and enhancing our measurement capabilities. The role involves management of engineers across a number of specialist and non-specialist discipline areas, taking responsibility for all team deliverables, maintenance/capability/training and safe operation of relevant facilities whilst ensuring accurate spend and programme controls are in place throughout.


You will be provided with the opportunity for exposure and experience across electromagnetics engineering as well as the potential for exposure to other parts of the wider test and evaluation organisation. The role is a very wide ranging role and the Signature Measurement Group Leader will work closely with other Group Leaders and the Engineering Manager along with multiple functions and multiple disciplines both on and off site.


The role sits within a stable team of 25+ electromagnetic engineers which has evolved its knowledge base over many years of test and evaluation activities across multiple programmes of work.


Your main responsibilities as a Electromagnetics Group Leader will involve:


Delivery of the team objectives in accordance with time, cost and quality coupled with commercial awareness and effect on external cost and revenue


Design and development of our products using EM modelling / measurement techniques


Maintenance and development of our capabilities (e.g. test facilities, IT infrastructure and IT toolsets)


Specification and procurement of new or replacement capabilities.


Provision of Electromagnetics specialist advice to the wider BAE Systems business.


Guiding and mentoring across the team

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Ideally, you will have a degree in one of the following - Physics, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Modelling, Systems Engineering. Additional relevant knowledge, experience and product expertise can offset the normal qualification requirements through direct Electromagnetics experience and working with aircraft or similar programmes.


The above skills must be coupled with good leadership skills, team-working, delegation/mentoring, personal time management and general communication abilities.


Experience within an engineering industry background and an ability to work flexibility to support all team objectives when required


You should be well versed with the overall systems engineering lifecycle


Possess a strong aptitude for technical problem-solving, conflict resolution and decision-making.


Familiar with IT Tools e.g. CAD systems, control software.


Desirable

5-10 years of demonstrable knowledge in Radar and / or Infared theory, design and / or measurement

Management experience in a test environment and knowledge of maintaining facilities in a safe manner

Experience and background understanding of CAD and materials measurement from component to air platform level
