Location

The work location for this role is predominantly centred in the midlands area at our National Grid offices. However, home working and visits to suppliers, contractors and project sites across the UK make a varied mix of work locations.Occasional travel and overnight stays would be expected.

About the Role

National Grid is embarking on an exciting replacement programme of their gas transmission assets across the UK. Working with the Capital Delivery project teams, key internal stakeholders and external suppliers, you will coordinate the development, implementation and ongoing improvement in design management across the portfolio of Gas Construction projects to:

  • Meet the Customer’s requirements and expectations
  • Deliver the optimum cost design solutions
  • Create designs that can be built and operated safely
  • Mitigate the risk of costly programme delays and remedial work

You will play a key role in the development and implementation of digital engineering in design using 3D modelling tools and techniques. You will also support thedesign input for commercial activities (such as, contracts, project scopes, tender events and evaluations) and participating in internal and external working groups to develop, review and implement codes and standards to drive continuous improvement in design management.

This position offers an experienced technician / engineer an excellent opportunity to further develop their design management skills, knowledge and experience.

About You

With a minimum HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline, and a formal development plan to achieve Incorporated and Chartered Engineer status, you will have a knowledge of design assurance and SHEQ related policies and procedures. In addition, you will have knowledge and experience of Planning, Design, Construction and Maintenance of Gas Transmission type assets, as well as knowledge of ISO9001 and the application ofQuality Management Systems.

With experience in applying relevant policies, procedures and specifications and the resolution of technical issues, you will have experience of influencing and negotiating, along with excellent communication and team leadership skills. Additional qualifications in areas such as Auditing, IOSH, NEBOSH, Design Management and CDM, are desirable.

You must possess a current, full UK driving licence.
