Are you an experienced Engineer or Technician with excellent communication and organisational skills? 

Do you have a background in power distribution and possess the relevant electrical engineering qualifications to support this? 

Have you obtained substantial knowledge and industry experience working on HV/LV distribution and control equipment? 

The UK Atomic Energy Authority has an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Engineer/ Technician to join the Electrical Engineering group which is responsible for the operation, maintenance and enhancement of the Culham site power supply infrastructure, including high voltage and low voltage distribution and control systems. 

The scope of electrical work is wide ranging in an industrial environment and involves all aspects of project ownership from the design and specification stages to the final installation and commissioning end point, including planned maintenance. 

Key accountabilities/responsibilities include: 

- Manage / lead specific electrical work packages and all associated documentation, ensuring full compliance with current legislation, codes of practice and safety procedures. 

- Manage / interpret supplier requirements, including review and approval of supplier documentation, and ensure costs are controlled within budgetary constraints. 

- Manage / supervise multidisciplinary teams comprising electrical staff, agency supplied workers and external contractors where necessary, to support UKAEA operations. 

- Use matrix management and collaboration while coordinating work to achieve supplier requirements. 

- Take responsibility for design, specification, procurement, installation, commissioning and maintenance of assigned electrical systems. 

- Preparation of engineering procedures, risk assessments, method statements and local rules. 

- Provide assurance by calculation, analysis and review of existing electrical switchgear and cabling. 

- Act as Project Engineer, and occasionally Project Manager, for projects within and beyond the department.

Knowledge skills and experience 

Essential 
- Bachelor`s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline) and experience in an electrical engineering role. Or an HNC/D (or equivalent qualification) in an Electrical discipline with significant industrial experience. 

- Experience of preparing safety documentation including risk assessments, method statements and using a formal permit system for work on complex, hazardous electrical plant. 

- Excellent level of technical and problem-solving skills. 

- Ability to plan, prioritise and balance the workload. 

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 

Desirable 
- Authorised or Nominated Person (Electrical) appointment 

- Experience with HV/LV distribution systems e.g. switching, system protection and control and interlocking. 

- Experience with 3 phase motor control centres (MCC`s) and 3 phase motors. 

- Knowledge of uninterruptable power supplies (UPS). 

- Membership of an appropriate Professional Institution.
