Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Would you like to play a key role in the design process within the Weapons Systems Mechanical Engineering function? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will manage a team providing and supporting the resolution of Engineering issues for the existing product portfolio as required.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplined team providing design and manufacturing solutions to support weapon platforms.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will involve:

Contributing to the planning, control and delivery of projects taking into account risk management, quality and SHE in line with requirements and processes

Participating in collaborative ventures at a technical level

Preparing specifications and developing designs in line with requirements and all quality and technical standards

Carrying out investigations into operational problems and developing and preparing solutions

Analysing customer requirements and their subsequent decomposition into functional system and sub system design requirements

Generating and reviewing technical reports

Acting as a point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve problems and issues and to maintain an awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives

Participating in internal and external meetings or design reviews with the customer

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer:

Essential:

Understanding of Design qualification calculations including Structural / Stress analysis (MS Excel, Mathcad, FEA (PTC Simulate/ANSYS)

Degree/equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant discipline/engineering environment

Understanding of Weapons Systems or design for military use

3D CAD (Ideally PTC Creo) experience

Product Design knowledge in Military or challenging environments

Desirable:

Working knowledge of technical office process standards and standard instructions (BMS and LCM)

Familiarity with PLM tools (TeamCenter) and links to the ERP system (SAP)

Awareness of Weapons Ordnance Components and Systems Engineering
