Business Analyst

Would you like to be part of small dedicated team of Business Analysts providing guidance on a broad range of business systems and software development programmes within our Maritime sector? We have an opportunity for a Business Analyst to be based at the Portsmouth Naval Base.

You will liaise with business customers and business functions to understand the business needs and to elicit, analyse, communicate and validate requirements. As a Business Analyst you will be expected to support the client in the identification of their needs, involving the definition of business requirements with clear and concise Acceptance Criteria.

Under direction, the Business Analyst may also be required to support the development of a business case in order to justify the required level of investment and ensure any risks, dependencies, and assumptions are considered.

Your main responsibilities will involve:

Production of configuration managed documentation in support of business analysis activities including meticulous analysis and comprehensive documentation of functional, non-functional, and user requirements.

Assist business functions to develop business process models, ensuring alignment of business and information system solutions, including translation of business knowledge into workable specifications and communication of them to technical team members.

Analyse the impact of changes to existing systems and the addition of new systems on the information solution environment, related devices, processes, procedures, end users and data.

Work within a Scrum team and liaise with key technical representatives to ensure Epics and Stories are clearly documented to a definition of ready criteria; and to ensure acceptance criteria and definition of done criteria have been met.

Lead customer acceptance activities, working closely with test and release functions to ensure that solution acceptance criteria are met.

Work closely with the Solution Architecture team to support the creation and implementation of Product and Service Roadmaps.

Assess the outcome of projects and report achievement of predicted business benefits to aid future Business Analysis activities and solution definition.

Your skills and qualifications:

Proven experience gained within at least one full major software development life cycle, to include requirements engineering/capture, stakeholder management, gap analysis, business process mapping, and benefits realisation.

Significant skills in business analysis capture techniques using a recognised development methodology such as Agile or Waterfall, gained in a complex business environment.

Deep understanding of Project Management principles and methodologies aligned to a Product Life Cycle Process, with experience of bringing clarity to ambiguous or challenging business structure/ programme environments

Good knowledge of Microsoft office suite to produce stakeholder friendly documentation.

Experience working in cross-functional teams

Experience in Data Analysis / Data Science would be beneficial but not essential.

In addition you will be skilled in being able to articulate product benefits and aiding decision-making in complex environments, whilst demonstrating resilience and a self-starting attitude in finding customer solutions.

Location: Portsmouth, with occasional travel to other BAE or customer sites
