Job Role Summary

We are currently seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Planning Engineer to join our UK team.  The position will be based at either Hythe or West London and provide Asset Management equipment and facilities intervention planning and support. 

The successful candidate will be required to assume the role of ‘Owners Engineer’, utilising the company’s and industry standards to achieve ‘best in class’ reliability from Terminal and Pipeline MV & LV electrical distribution and instrument automation equipment and facilities. In addition, the incumbent is required to analyse data and plan appropriate interventions needed to validate equipment performance and integrity.  

The planning engineers shall plan to spend approximately 40% of their time in the field monitoring equipment and facilities, as well as supporting Field Supervisors during work interventions.

Job Role Responsibilities

The key responsibilities include:

Asset Maintenance

  • Define equipment inspection, calibration and intervention procedures and frequencies
  • Plan all aspects of equipment interventions
  • Investigate and remediate equipment or component failures
  • Ensure electrical distribution documentation is consistent with Electricity at Work and Hazardous Area Regulations
  • Ensure instrument automation documentation is consistent with Network Information Systems Regulations
  • Ensure safety system documentation is consistent with Functional Safety Regulations

Performance Stewardship and Analysis

  • Track, analyse and report equipment performance 
  • Review and approve equipment ‘break in’ work plans 

Asset Planning

  • Development annual Planning and Budgeting proposal.
  • Oversee asset commissioning and retirement
  • Monitor Asset Performance, ‘Bad Actor’ identification and Equipment Strategies
  • Participate in equipment modification drawing reviews and equipment commissioning
  • Review and approve equipment change proposals 
  • Develop business case and design basis for equipment replacement projects
  • Prepare standards compliance demonstration for Competent Authority inspection
  • Verify fixed asset status
  • Manage spares refurbishment, storage and distribution

Expected Level of Proficiency

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering 
  • Possess knowledge of Electrical and Automation equipment reliability and security practices
  • Have knowledge of contractual terms and conditions
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant industry standards and applicable legislation, including but not limited to: COMAH, DSEAR, Electricity at Work, Functional Safety, LOLER, Pipelines Safety, Network and Information Systems
  • Have demonstrable problem solving, planning and leadership skills
