Principal Manufacturing Engineer

Would you like to be Leading a small team as part of the Astute Build Delivery Team, working in the DDH on Astute Class Submarines which are currently in differing phases of construction, test and commissioning. The team is functionally accountable to the Manufacturing Engineering function for governance and is accountable for delivery to the Astute Build Delivery Director. We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Manufacturing Engineer at our site in BARROW.


As a Principal Manufacturing Engineer, you will be leading a small team of people that fall under the Manufacturing Engineering function providing capability that covers the Manufacturing Engineering disciplines of Build Line Support, Continuous Improvement, Build Strategy and Dimensional Management.


This role will provide you with a great opportunity to enable and lead change to the performance and delivery on the Astute programme, as well as providing further opportunities to get involved in the Dreadnought and future submarine programmes. Your main responsibilities as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer will involve:


To lead and manage a team of professional Manufacturing Engineers in delivering highly complex, cross functional tasks and products whilst managing stakeholder and customer requirements.


Utilise your extensive technical background, detailed knowledge and experience of working in at least one of the specialist Manufacturing Engineering sub disciplines e.g. Build Line Support, Dimensional Management and Continuous Improvement etc., to deliver optimum Production outputs.


Planning and coordinating activities to meet departmental and business requirements. E.g. including responsibility for training and development with attention directed towards achieving formal professional accreditation.

 

 

To provide specialist advice, product or process knowledge, and output requirements, utilising innovation and creativity to solve problems and implement continuous improvement


Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer:


Deliver results within timescales and costs (with safety considerations first at all times)


MS Office Packages - Excel, Word

Previous experience leading teams, Resource Management, Budgetary knowledge & Project Management experience enabling the management of small projects

 


Experience of Continuous improvement, focusing of processes, fault finding & making suggestions on improvements, creating and issuing updated or new Manufacturing Instructions.


HNC/D minimum in a relevant discipline.

Desirable Skills:

SAP knowledge

To have a good understanding of all relevant tools (software based or otherwise)
