Job Details
De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester are pleased to offer the Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer Degree Apprenticeship (level 6) for employees looking to be at the forefront of advanced embedded systems
Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer Degree Apprenticeship
Designed by industry, the Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer apprenticeship puts the successful apprentice at the forefront of advanced embedded systems that contribute to developing the way in which we live, and the technology that is around us.
Apprentices on this programme will complete a degree at De Montfort University (DMU) that will support the fundamental scientific and mathematical principles that equip them with the understanding required to operate effectively and efficiently at a high level within a range of embedded electronics industrial sectors. This will be supported by vocational training to develop the required competencies specific to particular roles within the chosen sectors.
This programme is aligned to the Level 6 Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer apprenticeship standard designed by employers and approved for delivery. The final award is accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).
This standard is allocated Funding Band 30 (£27,000) by the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
Examples of industrial sectors that rely heavily on Embedded Systems Design and Development Engineers include; Aerospace, Automotive, Automation and Instrumentation, Robotics, Telecommunications, Information and Computer Technology, Defence, Energy (including renewables), Transport and Consumer Electronics.
Who the apprenticeship is for
This apprenticeship is suitable for employees in electronic engineering with a specific focus on microprocessors, control and networking as required by devices forming part of the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 and commercial/domestic electronic systems. It would suit those who have a background in electronics from ab-initio, through to those who have developed a strong interest through the ‘maker’ communities and wish to up-skill, to professional staff at technician level. Specific job roles may include; Hardware Engineer, Software Engineer, Systems Engineer.
Entry Requirements
Employers will set their own entry requirements in terms of prior academic qualifications and experience. Applicants will typically have attained A level standard or equivalent in Maths, and at least one further STEM based subject such as Physics, ICT, Computing or Electronics. They will also have English Language at GCSE (grade C or above).
Delivery Model
This is a blended work-based programme. The studying will include a significant laboratory-based practical component that is aligned with (and can be undertaken as part of) the industry-based component of the apprenticeship. An induction week at the start of the course at the university provides an overview of the curriculum together with an introduction to the numerous and varied support services available to students studying the programme.
Bespoke delivery options can be considered dependant on cohort size.
Final Degree Award
All successful apprentices will achieve an Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) accredited BEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Interested applicants for this Degree Apprenticeship programme need to be employed by an organisation paying the Apprenticeship Levy. Please do check before applying.
