Interlocks & Electronics Senior Technician

UKRI - STFC

Didcot

£30,782 - £36,479 (including allowances)

Full time

Open-ended

Do you regard yourself a good electrical engineer, good at fault finding and a logical thinker? Are you up to the challenge of designing high integrity safety PLC systems? Are you interested in making a difference to the way people working with high power laser technology are made safe? If you think you possess any of these characteristics get in touch with us here at the Central Laser Facility – we may have a job for you!

Take a look at our website (www.clf.stfc.ac.uk) to see the type of innovative work we are engaged in at the Central Laser Facility (CLF) and see for yourself that we help to inspire solutions to everyday problems including developing new energy sources to help us meet our energy needs, without adding to our greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, through new technologies that keep us safe in an uncertain world, to finding new ways to see beneath the skin to diagnose cancer and bone disease.

The Role:

This is a very busy and responsible role primarily working closely with laser scientists and engineering staff to help specify, design, install, commission and document personnel safety systems. Additional responsibilities include programming PLC’s and HMI’s and to ensure all relevant documentation, including CAD drawings, are up to date. However, and wherever possible, the full scope of the job will depend on the candidate’s skill set and area of interest.

About You:

You are likely to have an electrical/electronic/instrumentation background and be qualified to a minimum of HNC in a STEM subject (or equivalent). Having served a recognised apprenticeship (or equivalent) with experience of safe systems of work you will have a good understanding of electrical & electronic components/systems and be familiar with circuit and block diagrams. As a self-motivated individual with an ability to take the initiative where needed you will possess a willingness and ability to tackle complex problems.

You are a responsible individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and an aptitude to organise yourself with a creative, logical and pragmatic approach to your work. You will have a high level of drive, enthusiasm and focus in attaining set objectives and, as a team player, you will also be able to communicate in a friendly, clear and concise manner with staff at all levels and be able to supervise junior team members. Candidates with a working knowledge of the AutoCAD design/drawing or similar package would be considered favourably though training may be given.
