Job Details

Are you a Systems Engineer and want to see how your skills and experience can help shape the future of fusion power stations?

Do you have a STEM related degree and have a practical application of Systems Engineering?

We are seeking a range of Systems Engineers, from early career to experienced practitioners, to set the standard for the application of Systems Engineering within the foremost fusion research laboratory in the world, Culham Science Centre.

We operate some of the most advanced fusion experiments and designing and testing crucial technologies (such as robotics, materials and fuel breeding) needed for future fusion power stations. We aim to provide a source of electricity that is carbon free, with fuels reserves for millions of years and is inherently safe. This is not science fiction - this is Nuclear Fusion - the process that makes the sun shine!

You will be involved with the design and realisation of complex systems, and the development and implementation of the systems engineering tools, processes and data which govern our technical work.

Depending on your level of experience, your main responsibilities of the role will include:

- Leading (level 6) or supporting (level 4/5) the technical development of systems throughout the engineering product lifecycle.

- Managing (level 6) or contributing to (level 4/5) the development of system requirements and verification and validation information.

- Developing and maintaining the functional and physical architectures of systems/sub-systems and the interfaces between them.

- Performing design trade-offs between subsystems, new technology, opportunities and risks, requirements, and project cost and time constraints.

- Conducting system-level failure analyses to improve product reliability and safety.

We are seeking a range of applications across levels 4, 5 and 6 Systems Engineers within a salary range of £33,441 - £62,197.

We are keen to talk to people with good communication and problem-solving skills to join our team in providing Systems Engineering services across a variety of UKAEA projects and in collaboration with our international partners.

At UKAEA we strive to make everyone feel welcome and fully supported. Our Ambassadors are actively promoting and advancing diversity and inclusion in the organisation to help make our Organisation an employer of choice. UKAEA has a graded career structure and our mentoring scheme will enable you to reach your true potential.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. The culture at UKAEA promotes research, innovation and leading edge technological excellence, whilst investing in its people.
