The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen to take an important position within the HWIL department focussing on management of the capabilities provided by the department to MBDA and the wider defence community. MBDA HWIL provides a set of capabilities that are unique within the UK and provide a critical capability to both MBDA and wider UK defence interests. This role provides an opportunity to take a leading role in defining the development and improvement of the capability offered, including investment planning and securing, project management of capability development projects and making a significant contribution to the management of skills and knowledge within the area.
 
The Role

As Capability Development manager you will be required to work across the local and international HWIL team, together with a large stakeholder community to manage the development of the HWIL UK capability. This role will include:
  • Working with current and future users of HWIL to understand their needs and come up with plans to ensure HWIL is able to meet these needs
  • Generation of long term financial investment plans and Business Cases to secure the necessary investment to develop the HWIL Capability
  • Project management of several Capability Development programmes ongoing within the UK and international HWIL community.
  • Working across the business to seek out improvements in the way HWIL is used to ensure maximum benefit to the business and customer.
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of the HWIL facility to maintain a world leading capability
  • Showcasing the HWIL facility to a wide range of customers and stakeholders
  • Some element of line management of HWIL engineers is likely within the role

What are we looking for?
Essential:
  • Good technical foundation in relevant industry/technologies
  • Be pro-active and be capable of working on their own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Able to work with varied engineering and non-engineering teams
  • Experience of project management (Ideally across multiple skills and international teams)
  • Proven ability to influence wide stakeholder network.
  • Ability to work with unclear and ambiguous information and make reasoned assumptions to enable proposals to be constructed.
Desirable:
  • Experience of constructing high quality Business Cases to secure large amount of funding (>£1M)
  • Good understanding of the interactions between Engineering and Business drivers
  • Awareness and experience of knowledge/competence management
  • Line Management experience
