Senior Engineer - Structural Engineer

Would you like be part of a team who are beginning to start work on the future Submarine contracts? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer - Structural Engineer at our site in Barrow-In-Furness.

As a Senior Engineer - Structural Engineer, working in multi-functional teams to determine the best integrated solutions, and engagement with other industrial partners and specialist resources to agree technical requirements, methodologies and acceptance criteria for the development of future options.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to support both existing programmes and start to work on future submarine contracts with various development options taking place over the next three years.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer - Structural Engineer:

Developing and Justifying structural design and analysis on existing and future submarine contracts, producing technical calculations as evidence of analyses undertaken

Engaging with the wider programme teams and business partners to ensure that structural requirements are achieved, and appropriately balanced with other stakeholder requirements

Liaising with industrial partners and the UK MoD to coordinate technical development and research activities, or define/influence design requirements, methods and acceptance criterion

Producing evidence in support of qualification, legislative requirements and safety justifications and provide specialist support for associated activities

Identifying relevant issues, risks and opportunities associated with structural design

Providing support to the establishment of realistic programme status, the identification problem areas and support the implementation of agreed recovery plans

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Degree or equivalent experience in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline

FEA (Finite Element Analysis) knowledge

Analytical structural calculation skills

Desirable

Submarine, Shipbuilding, Aeronautical or Civil structural design/analysis experience.

Familiar with Pressure Vessel Codes PD5500/ASME, fatigue analysis code BS 7608, and Structural Design code BS 5950.

Familiar with Naval design standards.

Fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis experience.
