Trainee Structural Analyst

Would you like to work within our Engineering Analysis team at BAE Systems Land UK? We currently have a vacancy for a Trainee Structural Analyst at our site in Radway Green.

As a Trainee Structural Analyst, you will be responsible for the generation, interrogation and maintenance of models using commercial software to meet the growing needs of the business and customer. Generation of models is required for Strength of Design, product performance assessments, as well as design optimisation and heat transfer analysis.

This entry level role will provide you with a unique opportunity to learn about commercial Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software and techniques, as well as acquire specialist knowledge in the field of structural mechanics working across a diverse range of products across the UK Land business. There is a clear career path defined within the team with the possibility of additional support from BAE Systems for candidates to continue their higher education.

Your main responsibilities as a Trainee Structural Analyst will involve:

Maintaining existing database of models and simulations, including learning how to adapt these models to suit present and future requirements

Generating new models using commercial software to fulfil customer and business requirements as and when the need arises

Attending Technical discussion and advisory sessions with other employees and customer representatives

Managing and conducting research tasks negotiated with the customer and business to offer new capabilities to the aforementioned parties

Your skills and qualifications as a Trainee Structural Analyst:

Essential:

Degree/HND/equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering

Desirable:

Experience of using Finite Element solvers (particularly ABAQUS and LS-Dyna)

Knowledge of programming such as Java, Python, MatLab

Excellent working knowledge of MS Office applications for both technical report writing, and post-processing/presentation of results
