This position is for an Engineering Section Lead to our Air Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) business. As Engineering Manager your role will encompass the engineering and technical management across a variety of defence and commercial ATMS programmes.

Responsibilities include:
•Responsible for the oversite of Engineering and Technical activities across the ATMS section and reporting directly to the Head of Engineering for Global Sensors.
•Oversite of product developments with support from staff based in the ATMS Engineering Development Section, whose varying skills profiles include: design, electronic hardware engineers, mechanical engineers, software developers, systems engineers and design authorities.
•Close liaison with ATMS Technical Lead to ensure technical integrity of programmes.
•Responsible for programme adherence to schedule.
•Manage cost adherence to the programme budgets, using ‘earned value’ techniques. Cost Account Management for function, project control and reporting via EV / EAC monitoring.
•Resource management of engineering functions.
•Setting of goals and appraising core staff and agreeing project specific training needs.
•Technical point of contact and liaison point for key customer organisations.
•Technical interface and management of programme’s contractors & sub-contractors.
•Configuring and maintaining performance measures and matrixes for the above.
•Establishing and implementing the process improvement across engineering and the business as agreed with the Heads of Business and Heads of Function.
•Supporting Business Development in their roles of securing new business and setting strategy for the business.
•Representing the Head of Engineering at local level Leadership Team (LT) Meetings where required, reporting status and flowing down LT briefs.

Knowledge
•Proven technical expertise and management of complex systems development programmes and has full knowledge and experience of other related disciplines.
•Clear understanding of financial management and impacts on programmes.
•Experience and knowledge of managing and motivating a group of engineers with varying and diverse skill sets.

Problem Solving
•Working with their development team to provide technical solutions with a high degree of ingenuity and creativity.
•Uses process from a varied ‘tool box’ of problem solving techniques.
•Facilitates problem solving within a team environment.

Discretion
•Recognised as main point of contact of programme engineering issues for their development programmes and as the Engineering point of contact for the ATMS business section
•Exercises latitude in determining programme structure and engineering management approach.
•Short and medium term determination on resource allocation relative to long-term perspective.
•Day to day management and motivation of a team of engineers over the duration of the assignment.

Impact
•Guides the successful completion of programmes in a project engineering leadership role.
•Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve organizational objectives.

Liaison
•Confident and competent in a “customer facing” role, represents the organisation as the engineering contact on contracts and projects.
•Interacts with senior external personnel on significant engineering matters often requiring coordination between organisations.
•Confident and proficient presentation to Engineering and Programme LT.

Experience & Education
•Demonstrable experience over a range of programmes in the defence or other closely related sectors and business areas.
•BSc / BEng. in Engineering, Science, or Aeronautical Engineering
