Principal Engineer - Product Safety & Environmental (Legislation)


Would you like to manage a small team of Professional Engineers evaluating and managing product safety legislation for one of our programmes? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Product Safety & Environmental (Legislation) at our site in Barrow.


As a Principal Engineer - Product Safety & Environmental (Legislation) , you will deliver complex engineering and/or cross functional tasks or programmes of work within the delegated parameters, recognising stakeholder and customer requirements. You will utilise a combination of technical and legislative knowledge and skills you will be working under an engineering manager to ensure that Legal conformity of products is managed and maintained within the Dreadnaught programme.


This role will provide you with the opportunity to join a developing team with the ability to grow and learn.


Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer will involve:

 


To confirm beyond reasonable doubt by review, surveillance and audit, that those assumptions underpinning engineering data, analysis methodologies, and interpretation of results have been validated


To produce evidence in support of qualification, legislative requirements and safety justifications and provide specialist support for associated activities


To contribute to identification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all product lifecycle stages and to manage the resulting change embodiment activities


To liaise with both internal and external customers as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported, to undertake peer reviews or checking / verification tasks as directed


To provide realistic programme status, identify problem areas and implement agreed recovery plans

 

To define the qualification obligations for the assurance, hold points during build, test and commissioning


Provide assurance to the Design Authority as to the adequacy and robustness of the Safety Case and supporting documentation


To provide support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline, To articulate and present complex technical argument clearly, logically and simply


To be able to access, have a clear understanding of and apply the Quality and HS&E Management System documentation e.g. Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Risk Assessments etc. applicable to your particular work scope and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures


Provision of support and guidance Engineering and other business functions within BAESM-S in order to deal with emerging issues at business and project level in and efficient and effective manner

Audit legislative Conformity of BAESM-S Products in order to support governance and quality assurance


Responsible for the configuration control stages and detail gate reviews across areas of responsibility


To liaise with both internal and external customers as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed


To complete company assessment processes for individuals under their control which can be used for development of an individual, individual performance assessment and other assessment processes which are determined to be part of the company directive. Also, to ensure that appropriate empowered individuals are consulted as part of these reviews


Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer:

 

 

 

 


Essential

Experience authoring technical documentation


Experience of working with/ interpreting/ explaining legislation to others


Desirable

Demonstrable understanding of BAESM-S products through their lifecycle


Demonstrable understanding of Engineering processes


Demonstrable understanding of the New Legislative Framework


Experience of managing data integrity and large data sets in data bases such as but not limited SIMPLIFI, Lexis Nexis and Euro-lex


Product Safety, generic health and safety and/or environment/legal qualification - E.g. but not limited to; Paralegal qualification, A-level Law or equivalent experience, HSE, IOSH, NEBOSH, OSHA, Specific legislation/ regulation driven Diplomas or Certification
