Communications and Network Engineer
£33,000 - £45,500
Fort Halstead
Ref: 1639311

At Dstl, we protect lives. We develop the latest technology to help the Ministry of Defence keep the country safe. Supporting counter terrorism and military operations is an important task. So we constantly push ourselves to deliver novel solutions and ground-breaking technology. Now, we’re looking for a Communications and Network Engineer to push us even further.

In this crucial role, you’ll join our Surveillance Group within the Counter Terrorism & Security Division. Working with a growing team of experienced engineers and scientists, you’ll maintain and develop the MoD’s system integration. Your main focus will be to optimise or develop bespoke technologies within the digital communications domain.

Managing or participating in laboratory testing, analysis and trials of proposed equipment, you’ll provide robust scientific evidence. Plus, you’ll also draw conclusions and make recommendations that’ll support research activities. With the ability to manage your own time, you’ll also conduct various network-based activities and be on hand to provide technical advice.

From experience or attaining relevant qualifications you’ll have a solid understanding of IP networks and of the TCP/IP protocol stack. This’ll be backed up by your experience of network security and configuration, and knowledge of network design and optimisation. Proactive and flexible, you’ll respond effectively to unplanned requirements and changing work, all while gaining skills in new and unfamiliar technologies. And with a real passion for science and technology, you’ll become the unexpected.
