Engineering Installation Group Leader

Are you an experienced engineering manager ideally with a fusion or nuclear background, a relevant degree or equivalent qualification and excellent communication and influencing skills?

Do you have substantial knowledge and industry experience working with complex plant in maintenance and operational environments, ideally within either process gas, cooling water, high voltage power and/or ultra-high vacuum systems? 

If you have the drive to complete tasks using specialist multi-disciplinary teams in challenging timescales, the UK Atomic Energy Authority may have an excellent opportunity for you. We are seeking an Engineering Group Leader to join the Engineering Construction Unit team within the Central Engineering Department. The team consists of circa 14 employees and is responsible for carrying out installations, specialist modifications and maintenance work on our operational fusion facilities as well as supporting our emerging new business areas. This involves specialist mechanical, electrical and C&I works, with Group members often working as part of integrated multi-disciplinary teams to achieve successful results.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities include:

- Management and co-ordination of the Group`s work and resources across the UKAEA`s businesses, including resolution of resource priority issues
- Provision of rapid response when required to events such as key plant breakdowns, and emergency repair requirements
- Providing Engineering solutions to Group work when necessary, co-ordinating the design, manufacture and installation of equipment on the UKAEA facilities. Initiation and following through on new technical ideas, or concepts
- Support to the Unit Head to agree and advise on long-term priorities and budgets, with inputs to the Department Plan
- Provision of clear and positive leadership for the Group
- Resolution of Group resource issues and work priorities when they arise
- Management of Group staff, including their development, to grow the Group`s effectiveness and capabilities

Knowledge skills and experience

Essential
- Chartered Engineer status, or working towards this
- Track record demonstrating significant practical experience in delivering intrusive work on plant in radiological, or hazardous environments
- Demonstration and evidence of working with Safe Systems of Work
- Comfortable with leading, or working with, multi-disciplinary teams
- Excellent communication, influencing and collaboration skills
- Evidence of Prioritisation of Tasks
- Quality Management including Quality Control
- Positive approach to Technical Records Management

Desirable
- Nuclear Sector Experience
- Background knowledge and understanding of fusion technology and engineering
- Working with Internal and External Inspection Authorities
- Knowledge and appreciation of welding processes, their control and inspection
- Working with Ultra High Vacuum equipment and systems
