Engineering Manager

Are you an engineering manager with excellent organisational and communication skills?

Do you have experience of leading a team of electrical and mechanical engineers / technicians preferably within harsh industrial environments and/or scientific research organisations?

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Neutral Beam Power Supplies (NBPS) and Machine Protection Group - a team with responsibilities which include provision of complex power supplies in support of the European and the UK`s nuclear fusion energy experiments, JET and MAST-U.

Key accountabilities/responsibilities include:
-Responsible for the management and development of staff, (~15 engineers and technicians).
-Provide clear and positive leadership to deliver the required safe operation, performance and availability of NBPS equipment.
-Provide senior managers with high quality technical advice on operational matters relating to NBPS
-Lead recruitment to develop and maintain sufficient trained and experienced engineers
-Co-ordinate NBPS and machine protection group activities with other teams within UKAEA

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience

Essential
-Experience of managing technical teams working on large, hazardous electrical plant including HV equipment
-Experience of specifying and leading electrical/mechanical plant operation and maintenance activities
-Proven team and line management skills
-An engineering degree*
-Chartered Engineer status (or the competence and commitment to pursue professional registration at this level)

* Applicants without the required academic qualification but who have extensive, relevant and proven experience in a closely similar role will also be considered.

Desirable
-Experience of managing engineering professionals
-Membership of an appropriate engineering institution
