Senior System Designer - Information Systems

Would you like to play a leading role in designing the military information systems & services of the future? Do you want to help ensure that our armed forces have the information intelligence advantage? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior System Designer specialising in military information systems within our Defence Information business at our Christchurch site.

As a Senior System Designer, you will be responsible for leading the designing of military information systems, building close working relationships with our customer communities, maintaining a thorough knowledge of market leading technologies and providing direction and support to our development teams to produce new innovative products and solutions.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your career and extend your knowledge in a niche and strategically important area of the business and provide you with the opportunity to work across a wide range of significant military land, air and sea platforms. Your main responsibilities as a Senior System Designer will include:

  • Lead the designing of information systems and services of the future
  • Building strong customer relationships
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of current assured technologies
  • Managing a team of likeminded individuals
  • Awareness of competitors and their capabilities

You will manage a growing team, all with an underlying passion for technology and drive to continually learn, innovate and demonstrate their skills and abilities to all stakeholders. You will have a track record as a system designer within the information systems and services industry that has been underpinned with practical hands on experience. You should have qualifications, skills or experience covering:

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline
  • System design methodologies
  • MoD or Industry IT projects and programmes
  • Information Assurance (IA)
  • Security architectures and COTS integration
  • Product safety, certification and legislative standards

What we're looking for in you:

  • Recent experience designing information systems for military or commercial use
  • Management of design teams
  • Behaviours, such as Collaboration; Inspiration; Creativity
  • A network of contacts across industry
  • Professional registration, chartership or willingness to obtain

You must be an excellent communicator, with the ability to manage people and build effective relationships. You must have the ability to think strategically and consider the bigger-picture with your role. The role will provide opportunities to travel both within the UK and abroad, and you will need to have or able to attain the required levels of security clearance for the role.

Location: Christchurch, Dorset

Salary: Up to £75,000 based on experience, with performance related bonus and car allowance
