Programme Technical Manager - New Business

BAE Systems Defence Information has a suite of products in Military Communications, Cyber Security and Mission Planning. We are seeking a highly motivated technology expert who can quickly gain a technical understanding of our products and demonstrate their ability to match DI capability to customer needs. You will support Business Development and Sales in identifying opportunities in adjacent markets.

Your main responsibilities as a Programme Technical Manager will involve:

  • Maintaining thorough knowledge of appropriate technologies
  • Understanding of competitors capability
  • Translating customer requirements and operational context into solutions
  • Building relationships with customers and partners
  • Influencing technology selection
  • Support Business Development team
  • Leading winning bids

As part of the senior leadership within Defence Information you will be expected to technically oversee opportunities with a value greater than £100M.

Your skills and qualifications as a Programme Technical Manager:

You will have:

  • Strong understanding of a variety of technologies and their application in multiple domains
  • Strong technology influencing skills
  • Ability to discuss highly technical issues with non-technical customers
  • Ability to review critically review designs
  • Understand competitors technologies
  • Understanding of managing Intellectual Property

You will have detailed knowledge in most of the following areas:

  • RF communications systems
  • Large scale communications networks
  • Systems operating in multiple security domains
  • Tactical Data Links
  • Adherence to quality and legislative standards (particularly safety)
  • Operational Context for equipment use
  • Integration of COTS equipment and software

What we're looking for in you:

  • Clearly able to demonstrate the following leadership behaviours: Creativity; Adaptability; Collaboration; Inspiration
  • Demonstrable recent experience of delivering leading edge systems and services
  • A network of contacts in Defence Organisations and within Industry Supply Chain
  • Travel within UK and abroad will be required
  • Appropriate professional registration (IET etc) or willingness to obtain

Ideally you will have a strong engineering background with either: Defence or IT industry (Engineering Management, Technology Management); or Armed Services (Foreman of Signals, Telecommunications Officer Technical, Technical Staff Officer); or combination of both. You will need to have or be able to attain Security Clearance (SC without caveat).

Location: Christchurch

Salary: £65000 to £75000 dependent on experience (Grade WW13)
