Lead Hardware Engineer

As a Lead Hardware Engineer you will be part of the technical leadership of a dedicated expert team responsible for the design lifecycle of our electronic solutions for cutting-edge products such as Helmet Mounted & Head-Up Displays, Mission Computing, Flight Computers, Active Inceptors and other associated safety critical technology.

You will provide technical leadership and guidance in the development and delivery of digital &/or analogue electronics solutions. Demonstrating an understanding of both product design and work package control, which will ensure all engineering development lifecycle aspects are correctly addressed together with the associated trades made, in doing so.

Your main responsibilities as a Lead Hardware Engineer will involve:

  • Leading the delivery of design artefacts in support of company standards
  • Working collaboratively with other disciplines, to optimise solutions and minimise impacts from dependencies
  • Identifying Technology & reuse strategies
  • Model definition and requirements management
  • Functional partitioning & configuration management
  • Circuit design & schematic capture, as well as design analysis
  • Commissioning & integrating
  • Verification & Validation including EMC & environmental qualification
  • Liaising with both suppliers and customers

Your skills and qualifications as a Lead Hardware Engineer:

  • Be a recognised technical leader, capable of providing direction and robust engineering judgement, in all phases of the engineering development lifecycle
  • Knowledge and experience of digital &/or analogue electronics technologies, design tools and techniques
  • Experience in Technology identification & reuse strategies; performing cost & performance trades
  • Experience in managing model definition and requirements
  • Knowledge of functional partitioning & configuration
  • Degree/HND in electronics engineering or an equivalent qualification
  • The working knowledge of the following tools would be advantageous:
  • Mentor Graphics Expedition Enterprise
  • Analogue simulations tools, e.g. Simetrix or Spice
  • Timing designer tools, e.g. Chronology
  • Signal integrity tools and principles
  • System development tools, e.g. Enterprise Architect, Matlab, Simulink
  • Requirements management tools, e.g. DOORS

  • Capable of managing your own work and the output of others, including skills development of a large team of mixed capability engineers
  • Articulate, with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to identify innovative approaches to design and improvements to working practices
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good coaching skills with the ability to peer review and technically guide the work of others
  • Confident with strong relationship management skills, able to effectively liaise with stakeholders
