The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for a business/legal professional to join an active, involved and motivated Commercial Team, in a Directorate committed to delivering Defence Capability to the UK Armed Forces and other International Governments.

As a valued commercial team member you will play a pivotal role working in partnership with project management, and other business functions to provide competitive advantage whilst meeting the outmost important contractual obligations.
 
The Role
  • Work with the Business Winning Managers and multi-functional teams, to produce medium to high value /risk/complexity credible bids that meet strict deadlines for submission to a Customer .
  • Drafting, negotiating and agreeing standard contracts and contract amendments within agreed guidance and policy instructions and supporting the drafting of more complex arrangements and liaising with procurement to ensure the proper flow down of terms and conditions to the supply chain
  • Preare, reviewand negotiateall manner of Agreements
  • Ensuring Contractual obligations are communicated, understood, and fulfilled
  • Ensure the company is protecting, exploiting and acting correctly in relation to Intellectual property, export control and other statutory matters
  • Drafting, writing and responding to day to day communication from Customers. Providing detailed commercial advice to the Customer and may lead in Customer meetings. Takies ownership of commercial customer relationships
  • Responsible for the commercial risk assessment and effective commercioal risk management of a contract. Make decisions to mitigate or avert risks
  • Providing expert commercial advice to Project Managers and other stakeholdersin an integrated business delivery structure
  • Manages at least one Customer or area of a Project
  • Has an understanding of Export Control issues
  • Produce and present briefs for line management
  • Provide guidance to junior staff

What are we looking for?

  • Driven individual with soundbusiness acumen and problem solving ability
  • Experience and understanding of Terms and Conditions including the legal connotations associated so any legal training/background/ experience is an advantage but not essential
  • Experience of producing medium to high value/risk/complexity bids/proposal and successfully concluding appropriate contracts.
  • Experience in dealing with the UK Ministry of Defence and/or other Government bodies/Industrial Organisations.
  • Negotiation skills and interpersonal skills
  • Effective influencing and team working skills to steer internal and external discussions towards pricing strategies, terms and conditions that are both sustainable and viable for both MBDA and the customer.
  • Experienced in a  range of commercial or business related issues and skills including contract management skills throughout the contract lifecycle
  • You will have a willing, helpful attitude and a calm professional manner, even when things are changed at the last minute, our ability to be flexible and deal with ambiguity is key.
