A vacancy has arisen for a Tool Design Structural Analysis/Stress Engineer to support all the lines of business from the Manufacturing Engineering Shared Service Team based at our site Samlesbury
As a Toolset Stressing Engineer you will be required to provide detailed analysis of tooling including designed jigs and fixtures, Workshop Test and Ground Equipment - WSTGE (particularly lifting equipment), machining and support structures and Aircraft Ground Equipment.
Your main responsibilities as a Toolset Stressing Engineer will involve:
Completing stress calculations on proposed & existing tool designs, providing the formal structural qualification component of the CE marking data pack
Liaising with the tool design teams providing expert advice on design development and structural performance; ensuring our ability to comply with product safety policies and certification
Provide expertise across the function in support of the design of lifting equipment, lifting points and proof loading
Support learning and development opportunities to develop the stress capability of the function as well as developing preferred methodologies for tooling stress analysis and updating and authorising relevant production tool standards
Derivation of structural load cases derived from assembly process involved in the tool usage including: Hoisting and handling, Rotation, Aircraft Part location/loading & removal, drilling & machining and transportation (air, land or sea)
Analysing and optimising Tool Structural design for strength and deflection to satisfy/enable assembly process or tool usage including: Appropriate material selection and sizing
Providing guidance to tool designers for fixture detail part design to maximise strength and rigidity considering manufacturing process including: Casting, machining and welded fabrication
Analysis and optimisation of dynamic effects on fixtures to ensure suitability for a given assembly process including: resonant frequency effects, transportation effects, drilling and machining effects
Act as tool stress governance and technical lead with the potential to develop and lead a team of stress engineers including checking/authorisation of their work as necessary
Operate as the point of contact for all sub contracted stress analysis work including defining the requirements of the technical package and assessment of the return
Provide direct support to production operations personnel to resolve tool usageissues and queries
Your skills and qualifications:
Extensive experience of the use of Finite Element Analysis tool stressing using both hand calculations and IT based methods. Experience with PATRAN/NASTRAN and the Catia Stress Package (ELFINI)
Degree in an Engineering field (Preferably Mechanical) or a recognised Engineering apprenticeship preferably with an HNC in Mechanical Engineering (alternatively relevant structural analysis experience will also be considered)
Working knowledge of assembly jigs, WSTGE tooling (hoisting & handling equipment), machining fixtures for complex structures and their use in assembly of airframe manufacture
SHE and product safety knowledge with respect to Assembly/WSTGE tooling would be advantageous

Salary: £43,268 +
