Mechanical Design Manager

Purpose of Position

• Leadership of the mechanical design functional group on the AJAX programme.
• Develop a capability to produce high quality, efficient and innovative design solutions
• Deliver design output to support the programme schedule requirements
• Development of team performance via coaching, training and recruitment
• Be an effective team member supporting other business domains and the customer

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 30+ CAD and design engineers
• Setup and maintain a department organisation chart
• Develop design solutions for complex engineering problems
• Ensure design quality via application of appropriate review and governance
• Ensure design solutions are constructed to minimise cost to the business
• Deliver output to support schedule requirements
• Manage application of resources to ensure work is conducted efficiently
• Make appropriate decisions to ensure project priorities are accounted for
• Reporting of team output and performance metrics
• Development of staff to improve skills and performance

 Education/Experience

• Successfully defined and developed complex design solutions
• Proficient user of Pro Engineer/Creo
• Proficient user of Windchill PDMLink
• Military Vehicle design
• Knowledge of standards relating to defence work e.g. Defence and MIL standards
