Engineering Manager - Research & Technology Management.

Would you like an exciting opportunity as an Engineering Manager, investigating and understanding cutting-edge technologies and how they can be applied to the design and manufacture of a complex product? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the development of research ideas and proposals across a range of specialist Engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Modelling, Manufacturing, etc.), and then coordinating the implementation of subsequent research projects.

This role will provide you with the Opportunity to develop technical knowledge and/or people management skills, including training, qualifications, and progression to chartered engineer status as well as Internal progression into a more senior management role

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager will involve:

Lead, organise, motivate and coach a team of engineers responsible for supporting project teams in the delivery of research projects across the full range of technologies involved in the design and build of submarines

Supervise the providing of advice to project teams on the development of research proposals, and mobilisation and execution of research projects

Manage coordination of regular financial and progress reporting across the full portfolio of research projects

Maintain a watch on and understand technologies that may be of interest to our business, and ensure details are communicated across our R&D community, including liaising with universities and other research partners

Your skills and qualifications as an Engineering Manager:

Essential:

Degree qualified in a STEM-related discipline or equivalent.

Proven experience of large and complex engineering programmes or contributing Engineering discipline, or in a field with demonstrable transferable skills

Experience managing and coordinating a team of engineers

Strong engineering management skills (e.g. Engineering Planning, resource management, estimating, forecasting, setting objectives, action planning, monitoring, administering policy compliance, establishing procedures)

Experience of identifying technologies that could benefit a business and developing ideas for the application of those technologies

Ability to communicate technically difficult topics to all levels of seniority and competence

Experience in Project Management and the controls it applies

Desirable:

Knowledge and experience of key submarine machinery and systems

Knowledge and experience of the manufacture of large and complex products or Engineering programmes

Proven track record of self-motivation and pro-active approach to problem solving

Maritime - Submarines

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
