The Power Systems team have an opportunity for an Engineer to provide technical engineering input, support and advice related to traction power systems and/or electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). 

The successful candidate will support and provide advice on the design, modification and assessment of the ac. and dc. traction power systems when operated with new or modified timetables and/or the EMC interfaces with rolling stock, signalling and telecoms equipment.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to be involved in national and international Research and Development projects focused on innovative (including renewable) power sources, improving energy efficiency of the railway, improving reliability and design aspects of the traction power systems, as well as, EMC investigation and assurance.

The successful candidate should demonstrate a good knowledge of electrical power systems and will ideally have a sound level of simulation and mathematical modelling skills (such as Matlab, Fortran), as well as, the capability of carrying out test data analysis for testing on the traction system and testing for EMC purposes. Knowledge of, or interest in, traction power system analysis, short circuit analysis, protection studies, harmonic studies, electromagnetic compatibility analysis or similar activities would be advantageous.
