Would you like to play a key role in the delivery and management of submarine combat systems? We currently have a vacancy for an Engineering Manager at our site in either Frimley or Broad Oak.
As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the management and delivery of the engineering aspects of the various submarine programmes and projects being carried out in the Common Equipment Team of the submarine combat system. You will have line management responsibilities for a small engineering team, whilst managing the engineering scope, technical risk, and resolution of engineering issues.
This role will provide you with the chance to work on a complex, high value projects of national importance, alongside excellent career progression opportunities.
Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager will involve:
The management and integration of multi-disciplined engineering teams, including the leadership of engineering resources and the delivery of packages of work involving new products and/or complex upgrades
Delivery of projects to meet customer and contractual obligations; including management of cost, quality, timeliness and specification
The resolution of engineering conflicts between disciplines, systems and capabilities
Integration of activity and solution development; including meeting a coherent and prioritised set of demands, tailoring and applying engineering processes, tools and approaches to develop innovative and creative solutions
Identifying and exploiting commonality across the various projects and programmes to enable more efficient delivery of as much of a common combat systems product as possible
Your skills and qualifications as an Engineering Manager:
Background in one of the following engineering disciplines: systems engineering/ electrical systems/ mechanical systems
Understanding of how systems engineering principals work, as well as qualification activities against requirements
Engineering leadership experience
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience within engineering or closely related discipline

You must also be an excellent communicator who is able to take a tactful approach when dealing with conflicting requirements. You must be willing to travel between our sites (as a guide on average once every 2 weeks) as we have team members in Frimley, BroadOak and Weymouth.

Complex Systems and Support:
Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers. Our team is responsible for system design, build and/or procurement of the major electronic and mechanical systems on a submarine, as well as provision of test, integration and support services.Innovation is central to our DNA and has produced the Common Combat System (CCS) to address the customer's affordability, technology and capability challenges. It is based on commercial off-the-shelf technology (COTS) coupled with bespoke military hardware and software and is being progressively rolled-out into the UK's Submarine flotilla.
We effectively incorporate rapidly evolving, commercial technology, new capabilities and changes coming from the operational environment into long-term build, maintenance and in-service programmes.
