Assistant Engineering Manager

Would you like to take a leading role in ensuring successful delivery of Combat Systems projects within Naval Ships? We currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Engineering Manager at our site in New Malden.

As an Assistant Engineering Manager, you will provide engineering and management expertise to the Engineering Manager in the delivery of Combat Systems projects/programmes that vary in value between £250k through to in excess of millions of pounds which may have a significant headcount. You will manage the engineering resource under the supervision of the Engineering Manager for such projects including the delivery of engineering work and services using typically a diverse project team comprising of members of many disciplines and multiple interfaces with customers and suppliers.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to not only work on a wide variety of projects and programmes but also provide exposure to a wide range of stakeholders including internal teams, the Royal Navy and the customer.

Your main responsibilities as an Assistant Engineering Manager will involve:

Working with the Senior Engineering Manager, IPT Lead and Project Managers to deliver all aspects of engineering deliverables

Delivery of engineering effort to budget and schedule including work package allocation & tracking potentially with EVM

Support estimation of engineering activities for cost-to-complete exercises and when bidding for additional work

Supporting the development & execution of team resource plans including forward load forecasting & reassignment of engineers

Supporting the management & modification of Project Processes to ensure efficient & accurate execution of the engineering programme

Your skills and qualifications as an Assistant Engineering Manager:

Some prior experience of operating across a mixture of small and medium sized complex projects at engineering management level in a multi-disciplinary, potentially matrix management environment

Knowledge of Engineering Project Management techniques (EV,CPI,SPI, Risk etc) (desirable)

Technical knowledge and problem solving

Degree or equivalent work experience in a related Engineering or Science discipline
