Electro-Magnetics Engineer

Location - Reading / Basingstoke Area

Salary - dependent on experience plus contributory pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement, additional benefits and an excellent work / life balance including a 9-day working fortnight and flexible working hours (role dependent). AWE are looking for an Electro-Magnetics Engineer to join an existing team responsible for the design, manufacture, assembly and testing of robust, miniature weapon safety mechanisms. Currently the team is made up of Engineers and Scientists and works together with our peers in the USA. Your role will be to develop capability and understanding of all aspects of these specialist products from the underpinning science through to the system qualification of these highly reliable clockwork-like devices that can survive space flight and vehicle accidents. We have our own laboratory to support this mission.

With most of the team concentrating on the pure mechanical aspects, we are looking for someone to focus on the electro-magnetic elements, particularly design, analysis and testing of solenoids, stepper motors and transformers.

Applicants must have an understanding of magnetic theory and a desire to build on this. Previous experience of magnetic finite element analysis and empirical testing methods would be beneficial, though further training can be provided.

Though not to be considered a check list, candidates would benefit from knowledge of ANY of the following:

· DC motors

· Solenoids

· Stepper motors

· Transformer design

· Wireless charging

· Coil winding

· Magnetic materials

· Torque testing

· Electrical testing (particularly if high voltage)

· Ansys Maxwell FEA

· 3D solid modelling (Siemens NX, Solidworks etc)

To be considered for these roles, you must have an HNC / HND or degree qualified in an Engineering or physics discipline or have proven experience working in a similar field and possess strong communication skills.
