QEC Safety & Environmental Assistant Engineer

Would you like to work on the newest generation of Royal Navy warships with some of the most technically complex and leading-edge systems in the Royal Navy Fleet? We currently have a vacancy for a QEC Warship Technical Authority (WTA) Safety & Environmental Assistant Engineer at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a QEC WTA Safety & Environmental Assistant Engineer, you will support the QEC Warship Technical Authority (WTA) Safety and Environmental (S&E) team in the delivery of S&E outputs required by the customer under contract and those relating the business governance requirements.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to work both in the office and on the ship as part of a highly motivated, pro-active team that manages the provision of engineering support to HMS Queen Elizabeth, the largest warship that the Navy has ever operated, with her sister ship HMS Prince of Wales shortly to join the Fleet. This role is also suitable for qualified apprentices/graduates and you will be fully supported in your professional development, with the chance for excellent career progression opportunities in the future.

Your main responsibilities as a QEC Safety & Environmental Assistant Engineer will involve:

Working under close technical supervision and managerial control, developing skills to oversee Engineering Change for Product Safety & Environmental aspects through the design and embodiment stages

Facilitating and supporting S&E meetings and specialist expert panels, including Hazard Identification, Risk Sentencing and S&E working Groups and Committees

Maintaining S&E registers including Hazard Logs, Environmental Impact & Risk Register, HazMat Register, Legal and Regulatory Compliance Register

Supporting the monitoring of changes to legislation, regulation and MOD S&E policy applicable to RN Warships

Supporting the feedback on data quality and associated risk

Your skills and qualifications as a QEC Safety & Environmental Assistant Engineer:

Essential:

Degree/HND/Apprenticeship in Engineering/relevant discipline or relevant work experience

Good Data Analysis/IT/Computer skills including Microsoft Office

Desirable:

Engineering/Technical background

Safety/Environmental understanding and background

Understanding/experience within Maritime or Defence industry
