Electrical Technician

Are you interested in supporting nuclear fusion and have been involved in projects to replace, upgrade or design security and electrical systems?

Do you have a background as an electrical technician with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience? 

The UK Atomic Energy Authority have an excellent opportunity for an electrical technician to join their team within the JET operations department. The team consists of circa 9 employees and are responsible for the maintenance, improvement and replacement of key safety and security systems including environmental monitoring, personnel access and site signalling systems. 

Key accountabilities/responsibilities include 

- Working with a diverse range of different systems

- Leading design projects to replace, upgrade or implement new safety and security systems

- Leading the response to equipment faults on operating plant

- Fault finding and working with suppliers to maintain existing systems

- Opportunity to cover for shift technicians on an ad-hoc basis to operate the JET tokamak (training given)

- Interfacing with a wide range of internal customers and suppliers 

- Helping to operate JET as a cover shift technician

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience

Essential
- Industry recognised Qualification (e.g. HNC or HND) or equivalent level of experience in electrical or electronics related discipline 

- Good interpersonal and communication skills to interact with internal customers and external suppliers

- Ability to organise and manage small projects from requirements capture through to build of new systems

- Able to function independently and prioritise workload appropriately 

- Methodical and analytical approach to solving problems in designing and maintaining systems

Desirable
- IEE 18th Edition 

- 2391 City and Guilds Inspection and Testing

- AP12 - LV qualified

- Experience working with safety and security related systems

- Experience in following standard design and safety processes in a science or engineering environment
