Engineering Manager - Product Safety & Product Environment (Safety Management Services)

Would you like to play an essential role in providing product safety & environmental assurance for our most advanced submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Engineering Manager - Product Safety & Product Environment (Safety Management Services) at our site in Barrow.

As a Engineering Manager - Product Safety & Product Environment (Safety Management Services) you will be working with various stakeholders, approving bodies and product safety and environmental teams, to ensure that potential risks are; identified, managed and reduced to acceptable levels. You will also have the opportunity to work in a unique and interesting environment, operating in an exciting and fast paced role, on state-of-the-art submarine technology

This role will provide you with broad appreciation of the design and development lifecycle for a complete Product, presenting opportunities for advancement within the broader engineering integration and engineering management field.

Your main responsibilities as a Engineering Manager - Product Safety & Product Environment (Safety Management Services) will involve:

Tactical & strategic coordination of the Product; Safety, Environment & Legislation programmes across the Dreadnought PS&E Team, involving :-

Leading and managing professional engineers and project controllers (of the order of 10 direct staff. Of the order of 100 in neighbouring teams)

Defining and maintaining Project processes

PS&E Team resourcing and capability management

PS&E Team strategic and tactical engineering; planning, coordination, execution and reporting

Assuring the maturity of developed solutions

Technical risk and opportunity management

Interfacing with and influencing, internal / external customers and stakeholders

Ensuring compliance with the Operational Framework and Engineering Policy

Performing engineering management & review activities, to ensure Products are integrated, fully compliant and delivered to agreed requirements; cost, quality and schedule

Ensuring Legal compliance

This role is primarily Dreadnought project focused, although discharging limited cross-project (e.g. Astute) tasks, where there is cross-project task commonality

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Demonstrable competency in product safety and/or environmental case development and delivery, in at least one of the following industries; nuclear, off-shore, aviation, maritime or chemical process.

Demonstrable competency in managing safety and/or environmental engineering; design, assessment, customer interfaces, supplier interfaces, regulator interfaces.

Demonstrable competency in safety and/or environmental engineering; programme planning, impact & risk assessment, life-cycle management, team management.

Demonstrable competency in engineering project management and Legal matters.

Desirable:

Marine domain experience

Application of some of the following; IEC61508, DO178, DEF-STAN-00-056, ARP-4761, ISO14001, Def. Stan 00-051.

Chartered status, or working towards achieving chartered status, with a relevant institute
