MEM's Fabrication Engineer/Scientist

Would you like to work within a dynamic and focussed team working at the forefront of micro and nano materials and technology? We currently have a vacancy for a MEM's Fabrication Engineer/Scientist at our site in Filton, Bristol.

As a MEM's Fabrication Engineer/Scientist, you will conduct research into novel and innovative materials and micro-electro-mechanical (MEMs) sensors that often operate in challenging environments. You will be involved with on-going development projects in the areas of inertial sensors, structural health sensing, infra-red and liquid crystal displays.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of activities and help grow the current technology base as part of our Advanced Technology Solutions business. Whilst experience in this area is an advantage, we are also able to consider an entry level graduate who is interested in being trained in this area.

Your main responsibilities as a MEM's Fabrication Engineer/Scientist will involve:

Designing MEMs sensors incorporating process design rules, an understanding of fundamental physics and CAD

Researching into associated technology areas to assess direction of work to reach end goal

Producing guidance and documentation to support the development and embedding of new technologies and processes

Undertaking process developments for R&D projects in the areas of MEM's sensors and displays

Understanding customer requirements and providing practical technical solutions to individual problems.

Preparing technical reports, test procedures, process specifications and other product documentation

Liaising with the SHE Team - to comply with and maintain ISO / BSOHS Accreditation

Liaising with both internal and external stakeholders / customers

Your skills and qualifications as a MEM's Fabrication Engineer/Scientist:

Essential:

Degree/equivalent qualification or experience (fabrication/processing/engineering) in a relevant Engineering/STEM discipline

Knowledge and experience of Fundamental Physics

Experience in the operation of scientific equipment

Understanding and experience in the design of experiments to verify problem solving

Experience in CAD software

Desirable:

Experience and knowledge of Cleanroom working practices and equipment

Understanding of MEMs process development

Experience in the design of sensors/devices

You must also be organised, and able to work to specific project timescales with excellent communication skills and ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders.
